Marcel unseats Morel for Division E judgeship

Destrehan attorney Tim Marcel overwhelmingly defeated incumbent Judge Michele Morel Tuesday for the Division E judgeship, capturing more than 60 percent of the vote.

Marcel finished with 11,611 votes while Morel had 7,440.

Marcel, a Democrat, graduated from LSU Law School and has more than 17 years of practice in state and federal courts across southeast Louisiana. He ran against Morel for the seat in 2012 and lost by 168 votes. This time, Marcel was endorsed by St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne, St. Charles Parish District Attorney Joel Chaisson and St. Charles Parish Clerk of Court Lance Marino.

Other local winners included District 1 School Board member Ellis Alexander, who held onto his seat after finishing with nearly 80 percent of the vote. Alexander was challenged by Milton Allemand.

Darrell Chiasson was elected as justice of the peace for District 4, and John Brady was reelected as justice of the peace for District 7 with more than 70 percent of the vote.

Kenny “Gatorman” Schmill won the election for constable of District 2, while Jerry Pfister edged out Aaron Marino for constable of District 6.

Gary Cazenave was reelected as constable for District 7 after beating Butch Ockman.

There will also be a few candidates heading to the Dec. 6 runoff. Henry Wolfe and Rick Whitney will battle for justice of the peace for District 1.

Earl “Pie” Tastet will be in a runoff with Randy Muller Jr. for justice of the peace of District 2. Tika Riley and April Black will face off again for justice of the peace of District 5.
