A 28-year-old Luling man was sentenced to 15 years in jail after pleading guilty to producing and distributing child pornography.
Chad Hotard enticed a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct in order to produce child pornography on Dec. 13, 2012 and again on March 12, 2013, according to authorities.Hotard was also found guilty of distributing sexually explicit images of the minor on March 13.
Hotard faced a maximum sentence of 30 years in jail for each count, but will serve 15 years.
He will have to register as a sex offender when he is released from jail.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative utilizes federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations and the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Prosecution was handled by Assistant U. S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.
