The Hahnville Tigers picked up their first district win of the year after a 7-3 victory over East Ascension Friday night, but it was far from pretty.
The Tigers offense struggled throughout the night, with Hahnville’s lone score coming with 7:49 left in the first quarter when Brian Ensminger found Dontrell Strickland on a 23-yard strike.
After that, Hahnville had trouble putting together another significant drive and was forced to rely on the defense to keep East Ascension out of the endzone. The Spartans never really threatened, but controlled the clock with their grinding veer offense.
East Ascension did manage to string together enough yards to score on a 40-yard field goal in the third quarter, but the Hahnville defense came through with a big 4th-and-2 stop in the fourth that sealed the Tiger win.
Hahnville allowed just 121 yards to East Ascension in the win. Ensminger threw for 116 yards, but only connected on 8 of his 18 attempts.
For the fifth time this season, Tiger running back Ahmad White hit the 100-yard mark.
Hahnville moves to 4-1 on the season and 1-0 in District 6-5A. East Ascension falls to 4-2 overall, 0-1 in District
6-5A.

Dutchtown 44 Destrehan 10
Undefeated Dutchtown proved too much for the Destrehan Wildcats to handle Friday night as the Griffins pounded out a 44-10 victory to improve to 6-0 on the season.
The game started off on the wrong foot as a Destrehan fumble on their own 19-yard line put Dutchtown in position for their first score. Running back Effrem Reed took the ball in for a touchdown a few plays later. Reed would later add two more scores.
Destrehan rallied back with a long drive that stalled in the red zone. But they came away with points as kicker Daniel Cimino launched a 30-yard field goal through the uprights to cut the lead to 7-3.
However, Dutchtown responded quickly and scored on two running plays, both by quarterback Leon Blouin.
From that point on, the Griffins started piling on the points to take an eventual 44-3 lead.
The Wildcats finally got on the board again late in fourth quarter as running back Mark Trudeaux capped off a 23-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
The Wildcats fall to 2-4 on the season as they prepare for the Hahnville Tigers next Friday.
