Christians throughout St. Charles parish will have plenty of opportunities to worship in the weeks leading up to Easter, no matter what their denomination.
For Catholics observing Lent, opportunities abound to go to Mass, walk the Stations of the Cross, and meditate and pray in Eucharistic Adoration. And the Knights of Columbus are gearing up for their popular Friday catfish dinners.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church
The Norco church will observe Stations of the Cross on Fridays during Lent after the 8 a.m. Mass and again at 6 p.m.
The church also encourages parishioners to take part in a weekly Friday fish fry from 4-7 p.m. at the KC Home, 375 Spruce St. Visit www.sacredheartchurchnorco.org for more information.
St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church
The Luling church will be having an additional Mass beginning on the first Sunday of Lent, March 13.
Beginning that weekend, the Mass schedule is 4 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sunday.
The church will offer confession at 3 p.m. on Saturday prior to Mass.
St. Gertrude and St. John
St. Gertrude and St. John the Baptist Catholic Churches share a priest and will have similar Lenten schedules. Both churches will offer Stations of the Cross at 6 p.m. every Friday during Lent.
St. Gertrude in Des Allemands will also hold its Lenten Mission from March 21-23 and offer Communal Penance Services on March 24 at 6 p.m.
St. John the Baptist in Paradis will offer Communal Penance Services on March 31 at 6 p.m.
St. Mark
St. Mark Catholic Church in Ama will also have Stations of the Cross every Friday during Lent at 6 p.m. The church will host a Lenten dinner every Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Father Cote Center. In addition to its new Lenten schedule, the 10 a.m. Sunday Mass at St. Mark has been changed to 9:30 a.m. A 5:30 p.m. Mass will still be held on Saturdays.
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary
Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hahnville will have their Way of the Cross on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. throughout Lent.
St. Charles Borromeo
St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan has a long list of Lenten celebrations and opportunities.
The church offers Eucharistic Adoration 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Parishioners can also partner with candidates preparing for Confirmation for prayer during Lent.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available on Saturdays from 5:30-6 p.m. and the Novena To Our Mother of Perpetual Help will be offered on Tuesday evenings following the 6 p.m. Mass. Stations of the Cross will be every Friday at 7 p.m. followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
A special Stations of the Cross will be held at 6 p.m. on Good Friday and led by the Men of Manresa. The church will also hold a Lenten evening prayer on Mondays from March 14-April 4 at 7 p.m.
Mike Patin will speak on issues of the Catholic faith during the church’s Lenten Mission and preach at all Masses on April 9 and 10. The Mission will continue on April 11-13 at 7 p.m. The St. Charles Borromeo School Passion play will be held April 15 at 1:30 p.m.
The Fountain of Youth group will also host a fish fry on March 25 from 5-8 p.m. at the school cafeteria. All proceeds will benefit a Mexico mission trip pilgrimage. Tickets will be sold after Masses on March 19 and 20.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Paradis will hold Stations of the Cross every Friday at 6:30 p.m. until Easter. On Good Friday, the Liturgy will be held at noon and on Easter day the church will hold Festival Eucharist, a reception and an egg hunt at 10 a.m.
St. Charles United Methodist
St. Charles United Methodist Church in Destrehan will have a time of reflection and will offer Communion every Wednesday from 6:15-6:45 p.m. until Easter. The church will also host an Easter musical on Good Friday at 7 p.m. with a continuation on Easter Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Visit www.stcharlesumc.org for more information on service times and celebrations.
