Hahnville – St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne has been selected to serve on a task force that is charged with improving security in the Louisiana district courts and courthouses.
The six-member Louisiana Supreme Court Task Force on court security was chosen by Chief Justice Catherine D. Kimball.
Champagne has previously served as an assistant district attorney in St. Charles Parish for over 13 years prior to being elected sheriff in 1995. He is a former president of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association and serves on the Louisiana State Law Institutes committee on criminal justice.
“I am honored by Chief Justice Kimball’s confidence in me to serve on this important task force, which will have the mission of making recommendations to improve the level of security in district courts throughout Louisiana,” Champagne said. “The timing is also perfect as we have been working for the past several months to implement a new security plan right here in the St. Charles Parish Courthouse.”
Champagne will represent the Louisiana sheriffs on the task force. Other members of the committee are Judge Jerome J. Barbera, Judge Tiffany Gautier Chase, Roland Dartez, Judge Edwin Lombard and Louis Perret.
