Business fair adds crafts in attempt to lure patrons

Handmade dresses, quilts, rosary beads on menu

The St. Charles Parish Business Fest will have a new look this year with the introduction of arts and crafts vendors.

In the past, business booths have dominated the fest, which will be held on March 5 and 6 at the Hahnville High School gym. While residents will still get information about buying and selling a home, home improvements, banking and more from local businesses, they will also be able to purchase handmade dresses, quilts, rosary beads and art from the crafts booths.

“We wanted to try something different this year,” Connie Richard, the St. Charles Business Association’s administrative assistant, said. “We’re hoping that the addition of the crafts booth will draw in people who don’t normally go to the business fest.”

There will be 45 booths at the fest with about 15 to 20 of them being run by crafts vendors. The rest will be manned by businesses.

Those businesses will also be giving away door prizes. These will include anything from gift baskets to offering free services and items for sale.

The St. Charles Business Fest & Craft Fair will open on Friday, March 5 at 12 p.m. and will close at 5 p.m. The fest will then reopen on Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

New Orleans Zephyrs mascot Boudreaux will be at the fest from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Event coordinator Toni Maggio said that businesses  can still register up to the opening of the fest as long as they bring their registration form with them.
