United Way of St. Charles awarded LIVE UNITED scholarships to six St. Charles Parish high school graduates in May.
The recipients received a one-time award of $750 in recognition of their commitment to community service and the positive impact they have had on the St. Charles Parish community through their leadership and service. The award is intended to help defray the costs of educational expenses for attending a post-secondary program of their choice.
“These young adults demonstrate exactly what it means to LIVE UNITED through their volunteerism and giving back to the community they live in,” said Sara Miller, United Way of St. Charles Volunteer and Event Administrator.
Three LIVE UNITED scholarships were awarded to students at both Destrehan and Hahnville high schools.
The students who received scholarships from Destrehan High School were Courtney Rome, daughter of Roxanne Brady of Norco; Macy Terrebone, daughter of Mona and Brett Terrebone of Destrehan; and Samantha Clement, daughter of Eddie and Marian Clement of Destrehan.
The Hahnville High School students who received LIVE UNITED scholarships include Candice LaRosee, daughter of Maureen and George Rollin on Luling; Alexandra Wolkart, daughter of Jeff and Terrell Wolkart of Luling; and Brittany Bourgeois, daughter of Cliff and Beth Bourgeois of Des Allemands.
The United Way of St. Charles Staff and Board of Directors congratulates these scholarship recipients and all of the high school graduates this year.
Campaign leaders chosen from local industries
Representatives from Shell/Motiva and Entergy Waterford 3 are serving as chairmen for the 2010 United Way of St. Charles Fall Campaign.
Snookie Faucheux, representing Shell/Motiva, is serving as this year’s campaign chair. Serving as the co-chair is Odie Tucker from Entergy Waterford 3.
“I have volunteered with the United Way of St. Charles in different ways for many years. I truly believe in the work they do in the St. Charles Parish community and am excited to serve as this year’s campaign chair,” Faucheux said.
United Way of St. Charles conducts a fundraising campaign every fall to develop resources that help support agencies and programs providing direct services in St. Charles Parish.
The United Way Campaign is held during the months of October through December. The campaign kicks off with the 2010 Battle for the Paddle Gumbo & Jambalaya Cook-off on October 7, 2010 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park.
United Way of St. Charles is a nonprofit organization that works to create lasting changes in St. Charles Parish by funding agencies and developing program that target education, income and health.
