Delicious food, rock ‘n roll bands and carnival games will keep thousands entertained and content during this weekend’s Little Red Church Festival, which will be held behind St. Charles Borromeo Church in Destrehan from Friday, May 2 until Sunday, May 4.
The food is always enticing and includes jambalaya and red beans, shrimp stew, crawfish pies, meat pies and pulled pork sandwiches. Regular fest fare such as chicken nuggets, funnel cakes, hamburgers, onion mums, snoballs and pizza will also be on the menu.
Kids, teens and the young at heart will be able to soar through the air on a variety of amusement park rides and take part in exciting games where they can fire at a shooting gallery, hurl a ball at a dunking tank, hit targets with paintballs or throw darts for prizes.
Historically, the event has only hosted two live bands, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. This year three bands have been booked and will perform throughout the weekend.
The Boogie Men will play from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. No Idea and the Topcats will play on Sunday.
The Boogie Men are a versatile nine-piece dance band powered by a horn section. Their wide variety of musical styles range from the “big band era” to the most current popular songs and everything in between.
No Idea specializes in 50s oldies, 60s classic rock, 70s dance and disco along with current hip/hop and pop hits. The Topcats have been playing together for nearly 30 years and will make the crowd dance with a variety of music that spans six decades.
No Idea takes the stage from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, while The Topcats close out the fest from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. A drumline showcase and a DJ will perform on Friday.
Entry into the festival is free and about 3,000 to 5,000 people attend each year.
The festival is open from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Friday, 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Sunday.
