St. Charles rabies clinics administer 630 shots

With 630 vaccines administered on East and West bank parks, the Rabies Vaccine Day 2017 drew many residents with big dogs, small dogs and even some cats. “It was a great day and actually became another wonderful day for residents to visit with the vets and all the volunteers of the humane society,” said Jackie Boudreaux, president of the St. Charles Humane Society.

Jena Troxler and Jack Moreau administered the vaccines, which included both the West Bank and East Bank parks.

“It seemed the dogs were all excited for the outing on Sunday while the cats let us know they were being bothered and would rather be at home taking a cat nap,” Boudreaux said.

In addition to the rabies vaccines, there were almost 100 residents who purchased microchips for their pets.

Having your pet micro chipped is very important should your pet become separated from you,” she said. “If the pet is found and brought to any local vet office or the shelter, your pet’s microchip can reunite the owner with their pet.”

The microchip is scanned and gives the vet all of the owner’s information.           The Humane Society recommends micro chips for all pets and can be purchased and placed from all the parish vet offices or the shelter, Boudreaux said.

“It is important to remember if you address and/or phone number changes to contact the company to make the changes,” she said. “You can obtain that number from your local shelter or local vet.”
