St. Charles library’s Halloween Extravaganza could draw over 300 kids

An estimated 300 children are expected to attend the St. Charles Parish Library’s second Halloween Extravaganza and new Maze event on Saturday.“We like to have events like the Halloween Extravaganza and the A-MAZE-ing Halloween to give families a safe place to have Halloween fun,” said Library spokeswoman Lauren Campo Pitz. “It’s a little more active than your normal Halloween party.”

The extravaganza will be held 10 a.m. to noon at the East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Drive in Destrehan. It offers families a safe place to have spooky fun on Saturday.

The Halloween maze will be held 4 to 6 p.m. at the St. Rose library branch, 90 East Club Drive.

“Visit the library after hours to see if you can find your way out of the spooky maze,” said Campo Pitz, who dressed as an explorer at last year’s extravaganza. If you find your way out, there will be crafts and games for all ages.”

“We had 300 children in attendance last year and are preparing for just as big a crowd this year,” Campo Pitz said. “Each of the businesses and organizations will have a table with giveaways and goodies (and it’s a great way for the businesses and organizations to get out in the community) for the trick-or-treaters.”

The event also will include games, refreshments, crafts and a visit from a fire truck from the East St. Charles Fire Department.

Children will be able to trick or treat with local businesses and organizations, including: St. Charles Parish Public Information Office, River Region Ballet, Destrehan Plantation, First National Bank, Friends of the St. Charles Library, Valero St. Charles, Entergy Louisiana, St. Charles Parish School Public Schools Family Centers, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and East St. Charles Fire Department.

The St. Charles Herald-Guide donated to the program.
