Hubert Edward Champagne (Hubie), age 90 died peacefully at home on 3 September 2026 surrounded by loving family. Born in Killona, Louisiana in 1935, he was the 4th of seven children. After he and his wife Mary met in Raceland, Louisiana, they moved to Luling and spent the last 59 years of his life in Hahnville, Louisiana building a life centered around faith and family. They had 67 beautiful years together.
Hubie proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War as a Tank Commander. His military service remained a source of great pride throughout his life. Following his service to the country, Hubie worked at Monsanto as a chemist for 37 years.
Hubie enjoyed fishing and gardening and loved sharing his fresh vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. He had quick wit, a strong personality and a gift for making life interesting.
Hubie’s deep love for God guided every aspect of his life. He worked as an altar server at Holy Rosary Catholic Church for over 30 years and was a pillar of the church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary LeBlanc; his daughters, Wendy Champagne; Monica Champagne Alianti (John); and Patty Champagne Brien (Mark); grandchildren, Lindsey Brien Hymel (Kevin); Mark Brien Jr. (Kassidy) and Chase Harris; great grandchildren, Lyla and Ivy Hymel and Eleanor and Sloan Brien; and numerous other family and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, faith, humor and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Champagne Sr; his mother, Pearl Vicknair; his brothers, Felix (Ken), Ernest Jr (Red), Howard and Seth; and his sisters Pearl Frenkel and Mary Champagne.
Hubie’s legacy is one of unwavering faith and enduring love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 1 Rectory Lane, Hahnville, LA. Visitation will begin at 9AM with Mass at 11AM. Inurnment to follow at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft, LA.
