BEST BUDGET: Chief Administrative Officer Billy Raymond presented Chief Financial Officer Grant Dussom with a recognition for winning the ‘Distinguished Budget Presentation’ award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 2018 Budget at the April 23 Parish Council Meeting in Hahnville. The Finance Department has won this award six times.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation has been awarded to the parish of St. Charles by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2018 Budget. This is the sixth time that the Finance Department has received this award.

“Our Finance Department does an exceptional job compiling a budget that lays out their structure, policy and process,”said Chief Administrative Officer Billy Raymond. “This results in a consumable, transparent document for our residents.”

According to the GFOA, the award represents a significant achievement by the entity, as they have to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation. The guidelines are designed to assess how well an organization’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Budgets documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.

“It’s truly an honor to receive the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation award for the sixth consecutive year,” said Chief Financial Officer Grant Dussom. “We pride ourselves on creating the best possible budget each and every year, and to receive such a prestigious award time and again says much about the perseverance of the department and our strive to produce the best possible budget document.”

The GFOA is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners. The association is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with offices in Washington, D.C.
