Sheriff Greg Champagne has been appointed by Governor Bobby Jindal to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement (LCLE), a state body that helps set priorities for police and judicial programs.
“Sheriff Champagne is a great leader and a key partner on law enforcement issues in our state. His experience as a past president of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association and his current service as a vice president of the National Sheriffs’ Association helps us continue our partnership to crack down on crime and keep Louisianians safe. I am confident he will be an asset to the commission and the people of Louisiana,” Jindal said.
The commission, composed of representatives of the law enforcement and judiciary, administers federal grant funding to law enforcement and judicial programs throughout the state and meets in Baton Rouge quarterly.
“I am honored to be appointed to this commission, which directs funding to worthy criminal justice programs throughout Louisiana, including those that help pay for bullet resistant vests for officers, the D.A.R.E. program as well as assistance and reparations for crime victims.” Champagne said. “The Commission also sets policy in many statewide law enforcement issues. I am really looking forward to serving in this capacity.”
Champagne, a former Assistant District Attorney in St. Charles Parish, was first elected Sheriff in 1995.
