Senior travel club to visit WWII museum

Council on Aging releases June calendar, events

The St. Charles Council on Aging has released its June calendar, which includes events open to St. Charles Parish seniors 60 years and older. This month’s highlighted event includes a COA Fun Day featuring Bonco on Friday, June 26 along with other games, prizes and refreshments.

This event will take place at the Hahnville Activity Center located at 626 Pine St. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Space is limited. Call 985-783-3008 to make reservations.

The complete monthly list of June activities includes:

•Bidding 500 Card Club – This card club meets every Monday at the Hahnville Center with a beginners workshop from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and avid team play from noon to 3 p.m. Call 985-783-6683 for transportation.

•Scrap Booking and Calligraphy Art with Anne Hymel – This group meets every Thursday from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the New Sarpy Activity Center. Call Lois at 985-764-2412 for more information.

•Travel Club – The club is accepting reservation for its June trip to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans on June 10. The COA will also begin taking reservations on June 11 for its July trip to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans. Call 985-783-6683 to reserve your spot.

•Exercise Classes – The COA sponsors exercise classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Fitness Club located at 13117 Highway 90 in Boutte. The program centers around Body Flow exercise.

•Literary Circle of Friends – This group meets every Friday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 145 Angus Dr. in Luling. Call Sharyn at 985-785-1981 for lunch reservations and transportation.

•Computer Club – This group meets the third Tuesday of each month. Next meeting is set for June 16 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the COA conference room located at the Hahnville Center. Visit them online at www.home.bellsouth.net/p/pwp-computerclub.

•COA Cafe’ – Food, friends and fun the fourth Wednesday of every month. Next meeting is set for June 24 at Grumpy’s Fifties Cafe’ in Paradis. The cafe’ is by reservation only, call 985-783-6683. The group will also begin taking reservations on June 25 for its July 24 meeting in New Sarpy. July’s theme is “Blue Ribbon Baking Demos and Recipe Swap.”

•Senior Dancers of S.t Charles Expo Group – This group meets every Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Hahnville Center. Teacher is Judy Goutierrez.

•Blood Pressure Checks – The COA will provide seniors with checks on May 13 at the Norco Center at 10:30 a.m. and the New Sarpy Center at noon, and at the Luling Center at noon.

•Defensive Driving Course – The AARP, the COA and the St. Charles TRIAD Program will sponsor a defensive driving course on June 4 at the Hahnville office. To register, call 985-783-6683. All classes are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $10 for a 1-day course.
