Des Allemands couple chosen to reign over annual parade
The 2006 Krewe of Des Allemands will roll once again in Des Allemands on the traditional route on February 26. Mr. and Mrs. Landry Matherne were selected as this year’s King and Queen of the annual event. Mr. and Mrs. Landry Matherne were selected as this year’s King and Queen of the annual event. Not detoured by Hurricane Katrina, the krewe promises a fabulous time for all who attend.
Landry and Patsy Matherne are long time residents of Des Allemands. Over the years, the Matherne’s have volunteered their time in various community endeavors and were chosen by the krewe because of their unselfish contribution to the community.
To highlight some of their interests in the community, Mr. Matherne is a Deacon for the St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands and his wife was involved in the youth program at the church. He and his wife were also Boy Scout leaders for many years. Raising their children, they were always involved with their children’s interests and the interests of their many grandchildren.
This year the King and Queen wish to dedicate their reign to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina, for they both know how lucky they are to be able to celebrate Mardi Gras in a way that most people in South Louisiana can not. Mr. and Mrs. Matherne write:
“As King and Queen of the Des Allemands Parade, we would like to dedicate our reign to all those affected by the recent storms. We celebrate the many lives that were saved by the grace of God.
A butterfly emerges from its cocoon as a sign of new life, hope and beauty, so will the states of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Join us for the Krewe of Des Allemands Parade on February 26 at 2p.m. as we celebrate the gift of life.”
