Two local Girl Scouts achieve highest honor
Two Girl Scout cadettes from St. Charles Parish Troop 923 recently earned the “Girl Scout Silver Award,” the highest award a Girl Scout cadette can achieve.
“Girl Scout Silver Award recipients” are Savanna Barbee and Kate Induni from Bayou Gauche.
The “Girl Scout Silver Award” recognizes a Girl Scout’s efforts in a range of Girl Scout and community experiences as well as her commitment to working to better her life and the lives of others.
To earn the Silver Award, a Cadette Girl Scout completes a series of leadership challenges and a community service project.
After completing their Girl Scout Silver Award project, the girls bridged to Girl Scout Senior Troop 851.
Barbee and Induni worked together to develop a fun-filled guide to camping for Girl Scout leaders, and facilitated a “Survivor” camping trip for 30 Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors to show them the fun and friendship that can be shared through camping experiences.
“We wanted these younger Girl Scouts to experience how much fun you can have on a camping trip,” said Barbee. “The scrapbook guide we created from the trip will help new leaders to plan a fun camping trip for their troops,” replied Induni.
Girl Scout’s mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.
The local council, Girl Scouts Louisiana East, serves girls 5 to 17 in the parishes of Ascension, Assumption, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Iberville, Jefferson, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Washington, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana.
