Are best friends automatically disposed to be there through good and bad times? Have they signed an imaginary contract binding them to help at any cost? “Best Friends Forever” by Jennifer Weiner explores these questions in her realistic fictional novel as the characters travel across the United States.
High school drama split up “BFFs” Addie and Val.
Addie, unpopular and awkward, never quite fit in with Val’s cheerleader friends. They leave school and continue with their lives; Addie paints and takes care of her challenged brother while Val stars as the weather girl.
Years pass without contact, and suddenly Addie finds herself face to face with her childhood best friend, who desperately needs help. They set out on a journey that tests their friendship and their duty to each other. But can two friends who have been apart so long come together to cover up secrets?
“Best Friends Forever” was an amazing novel. The combination of secrecy, love, drama and adventure created a story that captivated me from start to finish.
Though written for adults, many teenagers would enjoy this novel – Weiner definitely did not disappoint. “Best Friends Forever” earns 5 stars.
