Speeders make Maryland Drive dangerous

Dear Editor,
For many years; as my children were growing up; I crusaded to have speeding curtailed on Maryland Drive in Luling.
I was told that speed bumps were not an option since they would cause a liability issue with emergency vehicles.

On almost a daily basis I would call the St. Charles Parish Sheriffs Office to report the speeding and to request that a deputy be sent out so that it was on record as to the speeding problems we were having.

I also attempted at one time to have a three-way stop installed at Maryland Drive and West Heather.  Nothing was ever done.

Maryland Drive is the only street in Mimosa Park that does not have a stop sign midway down the street.  Therefore, there is much more traffic on Maryland Drive because you don’t have to stop half way down the street.

I feel the recent addition of a “speed table” on Monsanto Avenue will only make Maryland Drive worse!!

My children are now grown; but I feel I must resume my crusade for the new neighborhood children.

If you are going to put up stop signs, make them uniform.  If you are going to put up speed tables, make them uniform.
St. Charles Parish is a great place to raise kids, but it must also be safe!

Sincerely,
Patti J. Goens
Luling
