I’m not keen on school millage increase

In the Jan. 18, 2007 issue of your newspaper, the St. Charles Parish school board said if voters fail to renew two separate millages on March 31, 2007, schools could go bankrupt or close and teachers might have to be fired.

Well in the Times-Picayune (and also the Herald-Guide) on January 23, 2007, articles “St. Charles school revenue soars” appeared about the increase of tax revenues of more than $10 million.

So why do they have to close schools and fire teachers if the millage isn’t renewed?

Also, if the school system is so broke, why do they give their employees, including janitors, yearly bonuses with TAXPAYERS’ money?

Why not give back to the taxpayers? I for one already pay a school tax in my property taxes and I don’t have children.

The school board gets a portion of the sales tax for every purchase I make in St. Charles Parish, too.

It is time to stop using education to rob the citizens of this parish. Yes we are the Parish of Plenty, Plenty of BS.
