A letter to the citizens of St. Charles Parish

On behalf of the Hahnville High School Band, we would like to offer our thanks and gratitude to the many residents and businesses of St. Charles Parish for your help and support in making it possible to reach our goal of bringing the Band to Washington D.C.. To see such an outpouring of support, both financial and moral, from the community is one of the most proud and rewarding experiences that we have had.

The people of St. Charles Parish truly seemed proud of the fact that our band was invited to perform in the National Independence Day Parade, and we were very proud to represent them in this awe-inspiring event.

In addition to the parade, we were able to do some sight-seeing in our nation’s capital while we were there. Our students and parent chaperones were able to see the White House, the Capitol, Mount Vernon, Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the Korean War and Vietnam Memorials, and several of the Smithsonian Museums.

Additionally, with the help of the New Orleans Zephyrs baseball team, we were able to attend a Washington Nationals professional baseball game free of charge, as guests of the Nationals. We attended the Capitol Fourth and were treated to performances by Michael Bolton, Jo Dee Messina and Stevie Wonder.

We feel that our students received a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and that many of them would otherwise never have been able to go to Washington D.C..

Without your help, this would not have been possible. We are forever indebted to all of you who contributed, and will do our best to continue to earn the respect you have accorded us. Thank you so very much.
