The parish is considering adding an adult volleyball league to its list of adult programming at the parks and recreation department.
Dustin Dufrene, a Luling resident, said an adult volleyball league would give adults a break from their busy lifestyles for a chance to be kids again. He said he would be interested in joining a future league.
“At the same time, they can get in a good workout while meeting people in the community,” he said.
Grayson Touchard, a spokesperson for the parks and recreation department, said the parish is considering the league but that no final decision has been made. The department asked residents for feedback in a June 17 Facebook post.
“We want your input,” the post read. “Are you interested in joining an Adult Volleyball League in St. Charles Parish? Your feedback helps us plan future programs that serve our community.”
As of June 30, 306 residents voted in the poll. About 70 percent of respondents, or 212 people, said they would join a future volleyball league. About 30 percent, or 94 people, said they would not join.
The department currently offers a co-ed adult cabbage ball league, a men’s softball league, a cornhole league for all ages, and an adult line dancing group.
Registration for cabbage ball and the men’s softball is currently open through July 19. Registration is accepted on a first-come, first-served basis with a maximum of eight teams per league. Teams pay $300 to participate, and both seasons will run from August through November. This is the fifth consecutive season of the leagues.
Cabbage ball is a sport that originated in New Orleans and is like softball but played without gloves because of the size and softness of the ball.

The parish’s line dancing group is at full capacity this year, with 150 participants. The class is one of the most popular summer events every year, according to the parks and recreation department.
The parish’s cornhole league is the largest in the south. The parks and recreation department partners with GNO Cornhole to host a 10-week summer cornhole league on Tuesday nights. The season starts in late May and games take place at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center gymnasium. After the first week of play, teams are divided into divisions of similar talent.
In 2024, over 200 players played in the cornhole league.
Residents can find more information about the adult rec leagues at the parish’s website, www.scpparksandrec.com/programs/adult-programs.
