Library to host Bright Star Theatre’s Peter Pan performance

Bright Star Theatre actors perform Little Red Riding Hood. The cast will perform Peter Pan this week at the library.

Bright Star Theatre will put on a production of Peter Pan at the library. Showtimes are Tuesday, July 8 at the Hahnville Branch (10:30 a.m.), Paradis Branch (2 p.m.) and West Regional Library (6 p.m.) and Wednesday, July 9 at the Norco Branch (10:30 a.m.), St. Rose Branch (2 p.m.) and East Regional in Destrehan (6 p.m.).

Lenny and Mabel, Bright Star Theatre’s comedic duo, will act as narrators who read the story of “Peter Pan” to the audience. As they read the story, they stop to act out the scenes and bring the play to life.

“[Attendees] are going to hear the familiar tale of “Peter Pan,” but with the Bright Start Theatre twist on it, which means it will be high energy and quite funny,” said Youth Services Librarian Raven Spizale. “A Bright Star Theatre production is a two-person show, so they have to be creative to tell a story that has so many characters in it. They also create their own costumes, set pieces, and props for every show.”

The show is about 45 minutes long. There is a Q-and-A after the show, and patrons will have the opportunity to meet with Lenny and Mabel and get pictures with them.

Lauren Campo-Pitz, the assistant director of the library, said pre-K and elementary school aged students will best enjoy the show, but all ages are welcome to attend.

Bright Star Theatre performed at the library in 2023.

“The audiences loved the energetic and interactive performances,” Spizale said. “The acting duo has great chemistry, and this makes for an enjoyable performance of a classic story with a bit of a twist. Patrons were also able to pose for pictures and enjoy a Q-and-A with the actors after the show.”

Spizale said she is most looking forward to bringing a bit of theater to the library’s summer lineup.

“Seeing stories being acted out brings a new light to familiar tales,” she said. “We enjoy seeing our patrons be able to interact with the performance and engage with the actors and stories.”

Registration is not required to attend the show, but seating is limited. The library encourages patrons to arrive early for their best chance to get a seat.

“Bright Star Theatre is traveling to all six of our locations, including two evening shows, to give the community the best chance to see the performance,” Pitz said.

The Friends of the St. Charles Library will hold a pop-up book sale at the Book Nook next to the Hahnville Branch, on Tuesday, July 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This matches up with the Bright Star Theatre performance at the Hahnville Branch.
