Over 650 volunteers register for Trash Bash

Over 650 volunteers have registered for the 17th annual Trash Bash on Saturday, April 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last year, 1,195 Trash Bash volunteers made up the largest turnout in the event’s history. Volunteers collected 751 bags of trash.

Grayson Touchard, a spokesperson for the parks and recreation department, said the participation in last year’s event earned the parish a statewide award from the lieutenant governor’s office.

“We’re excited to build on that success as we continue making a positive impact in our community,” Touchard said.

St. Charles Parish is hosting the community-wide cleanup event in partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Love the Boot Week, the state’s largest litter cleanup effort. Keep Louisiana Beautiful is an anti‐litter nonprofit focused on achieving a clean and beautiful Louisiana through education, enforcement, public awareness and community engagement.

Trash Bash volunteers can collect the necessary equipment, including pickup sticks, gloves and trash bags, at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center. Volunteers can choose their cleanup area or be assigned one.

A post-event celebration will begin around 10:30 a.m. at West Bank Bridge Park in Luling. The event will include food, music and a raffle. All volunteers will be entered to win raffle prizes, and the drawing will take place at the Trash Bash Celebration.

The Trash Bash Celebration is organized by the parish’s parks and recreation department, public information office and contract monitoring, with support from local partners, including Valero, River Birch, Cajun Comfort, United Way and Shell.
