Sheriff says about 90 percent of parish without power

Also says best route back into parish is I-55 to I-10

St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne says that the parish appears to have been spared from any major devastation and that Public Works employees are working to clear streets of trees and power lines.

Still, Champagne says that about 90 percent of the parish is currently out of power.

If streets become passable later today, Champagne says the parish will make an announcement on general re-entry. He suggest that motorist take I-55, then head east on I-10 before taking I-310.

Champagne says that those people who do return to the parish need to keep in mind that there are no stores open, the parish is out of gas and ice, and the sewer system is not operational. He also says that medical care is unavailable inside the parish.
