Parish officials urge residents to stay away until Wednesday

Even though several areas in the parish are clear of debris and have power, St. Charles officials want residents to stay away until Wednesday.

So far, the parish has suffered minimum damage. However, powerlines are still down around the parish and there is no food, ice or gas.

Additionally, the more people that are in the parish, the more pressure it will put on the sewage system, which has largely lost power. There is a possibility that sewage could back up into homes if the system is overloaded, Parish Public Information Officer Renee Allemand said.

Tim vial, the chief administrative officer of the parish, says that he urges residents to wait until Wednesday to make their return. However, he says those residents will not be turned away from the parish if they decide to come back today.

But Renee Allemand, the parish’s public information officer, says that Louisiana State Troopers have been instructed to only allow emergency responders and essential industry personnel back into the parish.
