Our future depends on your vote
When you wake up Saturday morning, remember that bad public officials are elected by good people who don’t vote. And then go out and do your duty.
This is a very important election for our state and parish. Louisiana, and especially our area, has great potential for future economic development with the greatest river in the world going through it to international ports, a greatly expanding offshore oil industry and the largest commercial fisheries estuary in the country. How we develop these riches will determine how our citizens live in the future.
And there will be puzzles on health care and public education to solve. Corruption has always been an evil force in our government and we must get rid of it. How we tax our people certainly will play a part in our future. Too much pork has hurt our government’s efforts to provide for all the people.
The Herald-Guide supports the following candidates for state offices: Bobby Jindal for governor, Mitch Landrieu for lieutenant governor, Mike Strain for commissioner of agriculture, Jim Donelon for commissioner of insurance, Jay Dardenne for secretary of state and Royal Alexander for attorney general. By so doing, we do not wish to discredit any of the other candidtes. They all have their attributes.
On the proposed amendments we recommend voting for Amendment 4 and against 1, 2 and 3.
But whoever and whatever you favor, just be sure you register it on the ballot Saturday. Because bad government officials are put in office by good people who don’t vote.
