On this Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2008, I am the proudest I have ever been to say I am an American.
Why now? Because a few days ago I and a majority of my fellow citizens had the good sense to elect Barack H. Obama President.
He has pledged to be the President of all the people, every race, every creed, every skin color, every sexual orientation, every familial make up.
I see nothing in this man’s record to indicate that he is not a man of his word. In fact, given the monumental challenge he inherits (the economy is headed for a depression), his intellect, and his track record, I have every reason to believe he will end up one of our greatest Presidents.
I point out his meteoric rise, against all odds, to the nation’s top office, the efficiency and effectiveness of his campaign, how he inspired young people and previously complacent people to participate in the election process, and how he has taken the bull by the horns during this transition period.
I predict that our country will be better and we will be more united than we’ve ever been when the Obama years are over.
