Jindal moves closer to the big office in D.C.

Gov. Bobby Jindal improved his national standing on the Sean Hannity program last week. He was the epitome of the conservative who would stand his ground if ever elected to national office.

And he obviously had that in mind. Hannity told him it appears his ultimate political ambition lies in Washington D. C. which was not denied by Jindal. And it even evoked a smile from him.

The governor came across much better than in other national appearances such as his answer to the President’s state of the union address earlier this year. He raked across the fire the health care legislation now before Congress which would add some $900 billion to federal expenses in the years ahead and scores of new taxes.

We need to take our time to get it right. Many improvements can be made such as tort and insurance reform that will make a big difference without turning over the health care system to the federal government.

Jindal emphasized how Louisiana is cutting expenses and bringing about a more open government that would address the people’s needs better. Of course some may disagree with that last assessment.

But he did emphasize that Louisiana is making marked improvement with the way government is serving the people and statistics in employment and education are backing it up. Though he was strictly conservative in his views, he appeared to welcome a bi-partisan approach in the nation’s capital, something that seems to have gone away.

Jindal obviously still has his eyes on Washington. After hearing his interview on the Hannity program, he appears to still be a major contender for the Republican nomination for President.

His views on the need for conservatism in the nation’s capital were as well said as any from other prospective candidates. If he keeps it up,  he could well be on his way to helping bring back true conservatism to the Republican Party, something it lost somewhat since the days of Ronald Reagan.
