Unnecessary stop signs

To the editor:

With gasoline nearly $3 a gallon, and probably going higher, now would be a good time to remove unnecessary stop signs at intersections throughout Norco. There is not one intersection in Norco that has enough traffic to warrant a 4-way stop sign. Installing 4-way stop signs in Norco was ridiculous at the time when it was done. Leaving them there at this time is foolish. […]

New park draws thanks

Nearly 8 years ago my science students at Hurst Middle adopted the site where the spillway’s East Guide Levee meets Lake Pontchartrain as part of the LaBranche Wetland Watchers Service-Learning Project. It was a popular dumping spot where we found many washing machines, dryers, and refrigerators. Wrong-headed immigration policy

In more than 60 years of reading the Herald and Herald-Guide, I have never seen a more wrong-headed editorial than the one written by Allen Lottinger in the edition of April 20, 2006.Lottinger titled his editorial “Immigrants Are Necessary,” and then proceeds as though there is nothing wrong with having anywhere from 11 million to 20 million aliens illegally in the United States. Clearly, he sees no difference between those legally in this country and those who are here illegally. […]
