River Region Drama Guild’s summer theatre workshop

NORCO – This summer the River Region Drama Guild is offering students eight evening summer theatre workshop classes to be held July 14 through 17 and continuing July 21 through 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night.

Those between the ages of eight and 18 will have the opportunity to learn acting skills and the chance to participate in a play.

The workshop will meet for two hours each evening and the workshop culminates with a one time only performance at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 24 that all are invited to attend.

The workshop will focus on ensemble building, trust, observation, self-confidence, concentration, imagination and creativity. The teachers will introduce the fundamental basics of theater and provide a well-rounded academic, educational experience of drama for all. Everyone regardless of ability and experience will be given an opportunity to be involved. Students will experience theater as a creative and critical thinking process that will help foster a healthy self-concept, develop intra-personal skills, clarify perceptions of the world and nurture an awareness of themselves as physical, social and creative beings.

The summer theatre workshop allows both experienced and beginning students to develop confidence and encourage imagination while learning acting and stage movement skills. Students will learn to express themselves through creative improvisation and skits. Participants will experience the excitement of a performance and at the same time learn life skills through the lessons in acting.

The performance will serve to demonstrate the skills learned in the workshop.

The workshop is free and pre-registration is not required. The program is sponsored by United Way of St. Charles. For more information call Henry Sorbet at (504) 331-0990.
