NEW ORLEANS – The Historic New Orleans Collection will host a bus trip to Port Hudson State Historic Site on Saturday, Feb. 15.
The Port Hudson State Historic Site is where Union troops battled Confederate soldiers in the summer of 1863 for control of the Mississippi River for 48 days – the longest siege in American history. Port Hudson also claims a place in the history books as the scene of the first sustained military offensive by African American troops.
Michael Fraering, site curator and a speaker at THNOC’s 2014 Williams Research Center Symposium, will lead the tour of the battlefield. Following the tour, guests will enjoy lunch at the nearby Roadside Bar-B-Q.
Registration is $45 and includes round-trip transportation from New Orleans to the Port Hudson State Historic Site and lunch at Roadside Bar-B-Q.
