Fishing tournament benefits man with lung cancer

LULING – The Throw Me a Cure Relay Team, South Louisiana Team Trail and family and friends of Frankie Champagne Jr. will host the 6th Annual Fishing for Frankie Bass Fishing Tournament at Pier 90 Boat Launch on Saturday, Aug. 2 to benefit Tim Foret.

Foret is undergoing treatment for stage 4 non-small lung cancer.  The proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Foret to assist him with medical expenses.

The Fishing for Frankie entry fee is $100 per team and the tournament will take place at Pier 90. There will be a $10 per boat optional big bass pot that will pay back 50 percent. Tournament check-in will begin at 4:30 a.m. at Pier 90. Participants must be back at Pier 90 by noon on Aug. 2 for weigh in. Entrants must have a fishing partner and a valid Louisiana fishing license to be eligible to compete. Registration is from now until the day of tournament. The payout will be 50 percent of the fees collected.

The number of places awarded and the amount paid for each place will be determined by the weigh master based on the number of boats fishing. On the day of the tournament, organizers will have food and drinks available for purchase and will hold a live auction.

The tournament is held in memory of Frankie Champagne, Jr. was a native of Edgard and a resident of Luling. He was diagnosed with non small-cell lung cancer in 2007 and passed away in 2011. The organization began the fishing tournament to benefit Frankie and his family while he underwent treatment and we have continued to hold the fishing tournament in his memory, to benefit a family going through tough times due to illness.
