CASA advocate volunteer training

NORCO – The Child Advocacy Services’ St. Charles and St. John Parishes Court Appointed Special Advocates Program (CASA) is looking for volunteers to be the voice for children in the community who have been victims of abuse and/or neglect. Training for St. Charles and St. John Parish volunteers will begin at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 25.

CASA depends on volunteers to make a difference in the lives of these innocent children. Volunteers do this by making monthly visits to see their CASA child by speaking to foster parents, case workers and others involved to gather facts and information about the child and therefore make recommendations to a judge to ensure the child is placed in a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible. In the 29th and 40th Judicial District Court (JDC), there were 36 children served in St. John and 36 children served in St. Charles Parishes in 2012. Thanks to CASA volunteers, partners and community sponsors, the CASA program provided a total of 72 children with a committed and dedicated CASA volunteer. Other children are waiting for a CASA volunteer.

If you are interested in participating in this training or want to learn more about how you can become a volunteer, please contact (225) 647-2005 or email kmcadams@childadv.net. Documents are required to start the training process.

Training will be held at the Norco Civic Association located at 555 Good Hope St. in Norco.
