Battle for the Paddle gets underway on Oct. 2

LULING – The call is out for gumbo and jambalaya cooks.

The seventh annual United Way of St. Charles Battle for the Paddle cook-off will be held Oct. 2 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park on River Road in Luling.

The Battle for the Paddle features a cook-off in two divisions, gumbo and jambalaya. Teams cook their own special recipes on site and serve the results to the public. Admission is $5 for the all-you-can-eat extravaganza. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

Music and a Pick 5 raffle will also be featured during the event.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in each division, including the coveted grand prize, an engraved wooden paddle.

The registration deadline is Sept. 26. The cost is $50 per team.
