I am truly perplexed as to why, after the obvious and overwhelming opposition to repeal the fireworks ban in St. Charles Parish a year ago, this kind of proposition would again rear its ugly head.
At a legislative committee meeting Tuesday night, St. Charles Parish Council members discussed an ordinance that would allow fireworks to be shot on certain days inside the parish but would continue to ban their sale.
Even though New Year’s Eve is still a few days away and fireworks are illegal in St. Charles Parish, Sheriff Greg Champagne said that his office has already begun to receive fireworks complaints. […]
For more than two decades, parish residents have made an annual trek to the West Bank Bridge Park during the Fourth of July weekend for an evening filled with music, food, fun, and most importantly, a fireworks show that lasts between 20 to 30 minutes.
