St. Charles Parish Councilman Paul Hogan asked the rest of the council to delay a vote on legalizing fireworks until the election of two new members.
After St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies issued 113 citations for discharging fireworks during the New Year’s holiday, Councilman Paul Hogan will reintroduce legislation to legalize the pyrotechnics.
Despite repeated warnings that included phone calls, emails and Facebook messages reminding residents that fireworks were illegal, St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies still found plenty of violators.
A special task force will patrol St. Charles Parish this weekend in order to enforce the parish’s fireworks ban, according to Sheriff Greg Champagne.
