We are the champions

Wow! HHS girls volleyball team takes perfect 8-0 record into state tournament

The Hahnville Lady Tigers volleyball team wrapped up one of the most successful seasons in their history, sweeping District 7-I with an 8-0 record and finishing with an overall record of 20-7. The Lady Tigers will begin the first round of the playoffs at home thanks to their district title. “It’s great to be at home to begin the playoffs,” said head coach Mendi LeBoeuf.

The Lady Tigers have had several strong players in the past few years such as Flora Brown and Marquita Hill that have helped them reach the state playoffs, and this season is no different.

“We have a lot of weapons to go to, but the girl that has really stepped up to be the leader is Trashan Glenn, our only senior,” said LeBoeuf.

Glenn’s success was very noticeable as the middle blocker was recently named to the LHSAA All-Star Volleyball Team. The All-Star game will be played on November 18 at Nicholls State University at 3 p.m.

The rest of the team has also played well to get the Lady Tigers to this point.

“I think we were successful because these girls have a willingness to work hard.

They came into the first practice ready to work and they put a lot of time into getting better,” said LeBoeuf.

She also credits three of the girls’ playing on club teams over the summer.

The other district-winning members of the Hahnville volleyball team include setter Raven Scott, outside hitters Danielle Douglas, Nadia Cox and Farrah August, middle blocker Keira Davis and libero Sara Tregre.

The playoff brackets were announced yesterday after press time. To view the playoff brackets and the Lady Tigers’ first round opponent, visit www.lhsaa.org and click on “Playoff Brackets.”
