Following a strong showing at the Newman tournament, Hahnville moved to 2-0 in District 7-I play with a sweep of Terrebonne, 25-20, 25-22, 25-11.

Mariah Mott had 15 kills and seven digs. Maci Hollingsworth had nine kills and nine digs. Kylie Spurgeon had 19 digs. Jada Moore and Olivia Schlumbrecht each had seven kills.

The Tigers moved to 25-5 overall with the win.

“I think we consistently got better as the match went along, got a little more aggressive on the service line and a little more aggressive offensively – that allowed us to finish strong,” said HHS head coach Mendi LeBoeuf.

Hahnville won four of five matches at the Newman tourney. The Tigers defeated Northshore, 25-15, 25-21; Pope John Paul II, 25-15, 25-16; Notre Dame, 25-5, 28-30, 15-10; and Northshore for a second time, 26-24, 25-22. The Tigers fell to host Newman for HHS’ only loss, 25-19, 25-15.

“I thought the Newman tournament was good for us, very good competition,” said LeBoeuf. “We were kind of stretched with a high volume of matches in three days, with a district game on Thursday, and we kind of fought through that. It was a good opportunity.”

The Notre Dame match saw Hahnville come out on fire before Notre Dame charged back.

“The first set felt like we couldn’t do anything wrong. We stayed in a flow … everything was going our way,” LeBoeuf said. “Working into the second set, we had some unforced errors and Notre Dame started to push. We did a pretty good job of closing it out in the third.”

Two very big matches are slated next week – at rival Destrehan Tuesday and then hosting Thibodaux Wednesday, both district contests.

“We need to be trying to push pace,” said LeBoeuf as to what she wants to see down the stretch. “Being really aggressive and working our side of the net at a fast rate … collectively, we’ve been pretty good across the board in terms of contributors, so we’ll look for that to continue.”

That will lead into a regular season closing tournament, the Skeleton Classic in Baton Rouge.

“We always play really good competition there and it’s a great lead in to the playoffs,” said LeBoeuf.
