Tigers romp past Terrebonne for happy Homecoming

There were no homecoming distractions for Hahnville Friday night.

The Tigers dominated from start to finish in their District 7-5A home matchup with Terrebonne, notching a 48-0 victory to earn their first district win and second shutout of the season.

Anthony Williams recorded three combined rushing and receiving scores — including a Hail Mary touchdown reception just before halftime to help spur on Hahnville (4-2, 1-1). Austin Perrin rushed for a score and threw four touchdown passes for the second straight week.

Hahnville had allowed a combined 73 points in their contests with Destrehan and St. Thomas More over the past two weeks, so the shutout was a welcome sight for Hahnville coach Nick Saltaformaggio.

“It was good to get a shutout. We needed it,” Saltaformaggio said. “We’ve given up a lot of points in five games. So to get a good shutout and really shine offensively the way we did was big.”

After Devonte Clark got Hahnville on the board with a touchdown run, Williams got loose for his own 11-yard score to put HHS ahead 13-0 midway through the first quarter. That score was set up by a 65-yard reception by Cade Miguez.

With 8:53 left to play in the second quarter, Perrin scored on a 1-yard sneak after connecting with Jamel Byrd three times on the drive, making it 20-0.

Then Miguez added to the scoring on his second long reception of the night, this one a 56-yard score on a screen pass from Perrin.

“We worked on (the play) multiple times (in practice). I just knew had to follow my blockers and try to get in open space,” Miguez said. “I did what I could to get open and thankfully I got loose and got the touchdown.”

Hahnville tacked on what looked to be their last score of the first half when Perrin connected with Williams over the middle for a 28-yard touchdown with 2:09 left.

But it turned out to not even be the last Perrin-to-Williams score of the first half. After an interception by Hahnville’s Hunter LeBlanc, the Tigers drove to midfield. On the final play of the half, Perrin bought time and threw the ball up into the endzone, where Williams won a jump ball over a host of defenders for a 50-yard score and a 41-0 Hahnville lead at halftime.

“It was an ugly pass but turned out to be a pretty catch,” Saltaformaggio said with a chuckle. “That was nice. Hat’s off to Austin. He’s really playing well right now. The rust is kinda off of him. He’s taking care of the weapons that we have.”

Perrin and Byrd combined for another passing touchdown in the second half to round out the scoring.

Terrebonne dropped to 3-3 overall, 0-3 in district play.

After such an emotional victory last week for the Tigers, they managed to keep it going in a big way.

“Last week was the craziest game I’ve ever been part of,” Miguez said. “Same for most everyone on this team. Coach kept saying that we can’t underestimate our opponent and we have to keep playing well coming off of a good week. We’ve got to keep doing what we’ve been doing and we did that tonight.”
