Tigers knock off Holy Cross to improve to 7-0 on season

The Hahnville Tigers pulled out a huge victory over Holy Cross on Monday to remain undefeated on the season at 7-0.

The 5-4 victory kept the Tigers in the top spot of the Class 5A power ratings, according to kenramsey.com.

Hahnville took an early lead with a run in the top of the second, then added another in the third. Hahnville squeezed another run across the plate in the fifth, but Holy Cross stormed back in the bottom of the frame by adding three runs of their own.

Neither team was able to bring a run across the plate in the sixth, but the Tigers pushed two across in the seventh to pick up the 5-4 victory.

Jake Cologne (2-0) picked up the win.

Senior Tyler Cooper had a big day from the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Fellow senior Jared Vial was also impressive, going 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI.

Brian Reaney led Holy Cross with a 3-for-4, two-RBI performance.

The Tigers opened the season with a pair of dominating wins over Ponchatoula, Neville and Parkview Baptist. They beat Ponchatoula 10-0, knocked out Neville 16-0, and cruised past Parkview Baptist 10-2.

Then they held on against Ruston to pick up an 8-7 victory.

Last week, they improved to 5-0 with a 10-2 victory over Central Lafourche. Ralph Wilson picked up the win in that game, while sophomore Tyler Simmons finished with three hits. Juniors Mike Ford and Travis Faucheaux had two hits a piece.
