St. Charles Cyclones defend title by winning division in state match up

The U-19 St. Charles Cyclones have successfully defended their 2007 state championship title by winning the 2008 Louisiana Divison 1 U-19 championship played in Alexandria last month. The team outscored their opponents in the state tournament 14-1 with potent offensive play and a dominating defensive effort.

Coach Darryl Samaha is very proud of his team and the back-to-back state championships.

The St. Charles Cyclones are comprised of 10 players from Hahnville High School, six from St. Charles Catholic, one from Destrehan High School, one from Archbishop Rummel and one from Brother Martin.

The Cylcones, who ended their spring season 16-2, were also the winners of the last six tournaments the team has entered.

Those competitions are: the 2007 Plantation Cup, the 2007 U-18 State Championship, the 2008 Lafayette Cajun Cup, the 2008 Lafreniere Soccer Fest, the 2008 St. Charles Plantation Cup and the 2008 U-19 State Cup.

The Cyclones have had much success over the years since the U-14 age, by winning a total of 13 tournament championships including a state finalist spot in 2004.

The team would like to thank the St. Charles Soccer League for all their support over the years. You can visit our web site at www.stcharlessoccer.org for more information.
