Lady Tigers cruise past Ehret, 16-0, in first round

The third-seeded Hahnville Lady Tigers needed only four innings to cruise to a 16-0 win over John Ehret in the first round of the state playoffs.

Hahnville scored 12 runs in the first two innings on their way to the rout. Courtney Dutreix singled to left field to begin the onslaught in the first inning and was pushed to third after a double to right by Summer Melancon. Amye Barre knocked a double to bring the two across the plate, and Megan Bush singled to put the Lady Tigers on top 3-0.

A following single by Alexandra Friloux gave Hahnville a 5-0 lead and Friloux crossed the plate for the final run of the frame on a single by Hannah Haydel.

To start the second, Melancon picked up right where she left off in the first, blasting a triple to open the frame. She would later score on an error to give Hahnville a 7-0 lead. Lauren Simar notched a triple of her own to give Hahnville a 9-0 advantage and Dutreix blasted a two RBI single to put the Lady Tigers up 12-0 after two.

Hahnville added another run in the third on a single by Friloux and three more in the fourth on a home run by Allison Folse.

Friloux led the team from the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Folse finished with three RBIs on one hit, while Dutreix, Barre and Simar each had two RBIs in the victory.

Haydel got the win for the Tigers, giving up only one hit in two innings and striking out four. Lauren Beadle pitched well in relief for Hahnville, striking out one and giving up no hits in the final two innings of the game.

Hahnville will advance to the regional round where they will face off against either Dutchtown or Comeaux. Those two teams were supposed to play Tuesday, but the game was rained out.

Dutchtown is seeded 14th in the state and the Lady Griffins are currently 20-8 on the season with a 6-4 district record.

Comeaux, the 19th seed, finished the regular season with a 14-10 overall record that includes a 5-7 mark in district play.

Hahnville will likely face the winner of the Dutchtown/Comeaux game Thursday at 4 p.m., according to Lady Tigers head coach Kenneth Vial.

If Dutchtown beats Comeaux, the Lady Tigers will host the regional. If Comeaux wins, the Lady Tigers will have to travel to Lafayette.
