Lady Wildcats’ season comes to end with 1-0 loss

The Lady Wildcats gave No. 10 Live Oak everything they had, but in the end it wasn’t enough as they lost 1-0 in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

Live Oak senior pitcher Brooke Gonzales struck out 10 and allowed just two hits in the victory.

She retired the first nine batters she faced.

Live Oak’s only run came in the fourth inning. Brooke Morris led off the bottom of the frame with a single and advanced to second after Sarah Sepeda drew a walk.

Morris would get to third by way of a fielder’s choice and score after a wild pitch.

Destrehan had threatened in the top of the inning when Michelle Haydel drew a walk to start the fourth. Haydel was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a single by Nicole Haydel.

After a pop fly to right field, Michelle Haydel tagged up and headed home but was caught in a run down to end the inning.

Nicole Haydel and Anna Hall recorded the only two hits for the Lady Wildcats.

Destrehan pitcher Abbie Hall gave up only three hits in the game and struck out one.
