Rising temps, south wind equal good fishing

The combination of rising water temperatures and a south wind that pushed up water levels allowed fishermen to have success in Lake Des Allemands, Bayou Gauche and Lake Cataouatche last weekend.

“We fished the Tank Ponds and had a great morning using the Junebug Baby Brush Hog and white spinner bait. We caught our limit of bass without any problems.” Ross Montet said.

Fishing in the Louisiana Cypress Canal, Chris Loupe managed to catch good numbers of sac-a-lait using blue/chartreuse, black/chartreuse and blue/white mini jigs under a cork rigged with a 1/32-ounce jighead.

“It was an amazing week to be on the water.,” Loupe said. “With the temperatures in the 70-degree range, clear water conditions, cloudy weather and 65-degree water temperature, fishing around fallen tree tops and grass beds allowed me to catch a lot of sac-a-lait.”

My son, Hunter, and I also tried our luck in the Louisiana Cypress Canal. Starting at the mouth of the canal, we set out catfish lines using earthworms. We were able to catch 14 nice blue channel catfish on the bottom.

We moved to the cut midway of the La. Cypress Canal and began throwing watermelon/red Baby Brush Hogs and chartreuse/white Booyah spinner baits.

We picked up several nice bass.

Finding clear water, we started throwing blue/white and red/white/chartreuse mini jigs under a cork and managed to catch six nice sac-a-lait. Because it was getting late we called it a day and headed back to watch the New York Giants take on the New England Patriots in the Superbowl.
