Pair of interceptions lock up Hahnville win

Barbe may have outgained Hahnville’s offense by 102 yards, but the Tigers defense came through when it counted with two clutch interceptions that wrapped up a 37-28 win and pushed the team even deeper into the state playoffs.

Hahnville got on the board first with a 22-yard field goal by Mike Aucoin, but Barbe stormed back on the next series with a 72-yard run by Michael Guillory. But just before the first quarter ended, Brian Ensminger snuck in the ball from 1-yard out to give the Tigers a 10-7 lead.

Both teams would get a touchdown in the second, with Hahnville’s coming on a 4-yard Alfred Blue run and Barbe’s coming on a 3-yard run by Kevin Berard.

In the third quarter, Barbe held the Tigers and took the lead on a 5-yard pass from Jared Foster, but Ensminger connected with Derek Howard on a beautiful 26-yard pass to give the Tigers back a 3-yard lead.

With the Tigers clinging to a slim lead in the fourth, Foster and Guillory combined for a 13-yard touchdown. But once again, the Tigers bounced right back with Ensminger and Howard connecting on their second touchdown of the game to give the Tigers a 30-28 lead.

Barbe still had 4 minutes left to try to get back into the game, but Hahnville defensive back Dyrenell Robinson jumped in front of the pass and took it all the way to the endzone to extend the Tigers lead to 37-28.

Barbe would threaten again with under a minute remaining, but this time Brody Bourg came through with a Hahnville interception to preserve the win.
