Two local boys competed in the 6th Annual St. Matthew Fishing Rodeo May 16-17. Luling’s Jason Fenger Jr. reeled in first place for his flounder in the children’s division while fishing in Dulac’s Bayou Grand Calliou.
It weighed in at a whopping 2.20 pounds – larger than the first place winner in the adult division. Fenger says that he caught the winning flounder by fishing on the bottom with dead shrimp.
Hahnville’s Ritchie Whitney placed fourth in the children’s crab division while fishing in Montegut’s Bayou Chauvin.
Both boys were awarded with trophies and a fishing pole.
