Lady Tigers 10-run Terrebonne in first round

No. 4 Hahnville travels to take on Slidell at 4 p.m.

The No. 4 Hahnville Lady Tigers blew past their first postseason opponent on Tuesday, recording nine hits in a 10-0 victory over No. 29 Terrebonne.

Hahnville began to pull away in the second inning, scoring three runs on their way to the rout. Senior Taylor Webre walked to start off the bottom of the inning and sophomore Megan Bush blasted a single through third. Junior Alexandra Friloux then doubled in Webre, and a following double from senior Abby Boutte brought in Bush to give Hahnville a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Tigers kept the pressure on when Junior Courtney Dutreix drew a walk to load the bases, which allowed junior Summer Melancon to hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the final run of the inning.

Hahnville ace Hannah Haydel sat the next three Terrebonne batters down in order in the top of the third, and the Lady Tigers put the game away in the bottom of the inning.

With one out, Bush hit a blooper that dropped in shallow center field and a Terrebonne error on a hard hit by Friloux put Hahnville runners on second and third.

Boutte then drew a walk to load the bases, but they didn’t stay loaded for long as Bush stole home on a passed ball to give Hahnville a 4-0 lead.

After Dutreix lined out to left, the Lady Tigers went on a two-out attack.

Melancon blasted a shot to left center field that brought in both Friloux and Boutte to give Hahnville a 6-0 lead. Junior Amye Barre followed with another liner to left that went for a double and scored Melancon.

Junior Hope Mair brought in the final run of the frame when her shot over second scored senior courtesy runner Jade Meyers.

The Lady Tigers wouldn’t score in the fourth, but added two runs in the bottom of the fifth to 10-run Terrebonne and end the game early.

Barre finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Melancon finished with three RBIs. Bush had two hits for the Lady Tigers.

Haydel(28-3) picked up the win for Hahnville, allowing only two hits.

The Lady Tigers will now travel to Slidell on April 21 for a 4 p.m. game. Slidell, who is seeded 20th, had a 1-0 upset win over No. 13 Pineville in the first round.

“Slidell is like Jekyll and Hyde. They have put together some great wins against some good teams and they have lost to some bad teams,” Hahnville head coach Kenneth Vial said. “They are dangerous and this is going to be a good high school softball game.”

From this point on, the games don’t get any easier for the Lady Tigers. If they win on Thursday, they will travel to Sulphur and join the best eight teams in the state.

“I’ve never had an easy side of the bracket,” Vial said. “Because of the  way the playoffs are set now, you don’t have any teams sneak in…you have the best teams that are playing their best ball.”
