HHS’ Perrin commits to ULL

Hahnville junior left-hander Austin Perrin has established a reputation as a big -game pitcher. The University of Louisiana-Lafayette took notice.Perrin recently committed to play at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, where in 2018 he will join a Ragin’ Cajuns team that won its conference and will host an NCAA tournament regional this week.

“I am very excited to get a chance to play Division I Baseball at UL Lafayette … it is a dream come true,” Perrin said. “I am getting a chance to play for a great Louisiana team with a winning program.  They have a standard for great pitching and a phenomenal head coach and man, Tony Robichaux.  They believe in education and having character.”

Perrin nailed down a 1.19 ERA and an 8-2 record in the regular season. Once Hahnville reached the postseason, he allowed just one earned run in 15 innings, striking out 21 batters and earning the win in each of Hahnville’s playoff victories.

For the season, Perrin was a strikeout artist, notching 89 of those in his 70.1 total innings pitched this season.

In his sophomore season, Perrin went 5-4 with a 2.20 ERA.

He was recently named NOLA.com’s All-Metro Team Pitcher of the Year.

Perrin quickly earned a key role on the HHS pitching staff, becoming the rare freshman that cracked the starting rotation.

“Coach Baudry believed in me and gave me an opportunity to pitch against Brother Martin as a freshman,” Perrin said. “I took the mound, and I never looked back.”

Perrin added that one reason he chose to sign with ULL comes down to the school’s facilities. ULL is building a brand new baseball stadium and field house at end of this season.

And Perrin also simply likes the area, calling Lafayette “a great place to live and go to school.”

“I can’t wait to be a Ragin’ Cajun,” he said. “I also want to thank my teammates, fans, family, friends and coaches who have cheered me on and believed in me.”
