HHS, DHS compete in district, state track meets

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association 5-A state track meet was held at Louisiana State University on May 10.The Hahnville High School girls track team finished sixth place in the team competition with Princetta Cummings taking first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14:74. She also finished fourth in the long jump of 8 feet, 6.5 inches.

Rickia Preston finished second in the discus with a throw of 126 feet and second in the shot put with a put of 39 feet, 8 inches.

At the District 6-5A track meet on April 22, the HHS girls team ranked at second overall. Destrehan High School placed at sixth in the girls competition.

In the boys division, the DHS Wildcats rounded out the top three in third place, with HHS trailing in a close fourth place spot.

In the girls 4×200-meter relay, HHS placed third with a time of 1:46.94. DHS took first place in the boys event with a time of 1:27.70.

Hahnville’s Kanesha Taylor came in at second in the girls 1600-meter race, followed by Cummings in first place in the 100-meter hurdles.

Hahnville finished in second place in the girls 4×100-meter competition with Jamara Celistan closing in at 49.76.

Bryce Deriuse placed HHS at second in the 110-meter hurdles followed by Destrehan’s Brian Blackwell in third for the boys.

In the boys 100-meter dash, Destrehan’s Henry Lenox placed first followed by another first-place victory for DHS in the boys 4×100-meter relay where Kyron King finished at 42.74. Lenox also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.32.

Joshua Dewey finished at 50.24 in the boys 400-meter dash, landing DHS in second place.

In the girls 300-meter hurdles, Hahnville’s Jasmine Hill placed second, followed by Deruise in the same place for the boys event.

Taylor competed for HHS in the girls 3,200-meter run, placing third.

Hahnville also placed at third in the girls 4×400-meter relay with Amber Butler leading the group.

HHS placed second in the boys 4×400-meter event, and Rickia Preston placed Hahnville at third in the girls discus throw. Preston also swept the competition, placing first in the girls shot put.

Destrehan’s Dadrion Tiurcuit placed second in the girls high jump with a jump of 5-03.00. Hahville’s Patty Cloud came in at third, jumping at 4-11.00.

In the boys triple jump, Dyrenell Johnson placed third with a jump of 40-07.00, followed by a second place victory in the boys long jump at 20-07.00.

In the girls long jump, Cummings came in at second for HHS with a jump of 17-03.00, followed by teammate Megan Duronselet in third place in the pole vault event. Duronselet vaulted at 8-04.00.

Jacob Brooks and Keith Gould took second and third for Hahnville in the boys pole vault.
