Hahnville drops post season pitchers duel to Brother Martin, 3-0

It was a pitcher’s battle in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs as No. 19 seed Hahnville suffered a 3-0 loss to No. 14 seed Brother Martin at UNO’s Wesley Barrow Stadium Tuesday night.

Both hurler’s stats were impressive; not one run was scored until the sixth inning and then it was the only scoring opportunity for either side.

Austin Perrin took the mound for the Tigers and threw 103 pitches to 36 batters over five and two thirds innings. The Crusaders got five hits off Perrin and the sophomore pitcher allowed three earned runs, although he struck out nine and only walked three. Perrin was impressive in the second and third inning as the left-handed ace struck out six Crusaders in a row.

Brother Martin’s Blair Fredrick threw 102 pitches to 35 Hahnville batters giving up only one hit, no earned runs, three walks and eight strike outs.

But it was at the plate where Fredrick made the real difference, hitting a two-run home run that put the Crusaders on the board. Another run scored on a wild pitch to extend the Crusaders lead to 3-0, where it stayed until the last out.

Hahnville ends the season with a perfect 13-0 District record winning their last 13 games before entering the playoffs.

Tuesday’s loss was the first Hahnville defeat since March 22 when they fell by one run, 6-5, to West Ouachita. Hahnville head coach David Baudry said his team had nothing to hang their heads about.

“They (Brother Martin) took advantage of one scoring opportunity and that was the difference in the game,” Baudry said.

Baudry’s feelings about the season are better than good.

“I felt we had great senior leadership this year,” he said.

“And the young guys caught on quick. We now move forward to next year.”

Brother Martin advances to the second round of the playoffs where they will face No. 30 Archbishop Shaw.
